Juniors Program, Spring Semester, Jan 19-May 8,
open to all 7th through 12th-grade students.

Our affordable program is dedicated to developing young rowers by teaching them technique, teamwork, and self-discipline. We designed the program to provide maximum flexibility so that busy students can choose the practice schedule and degree of commitment to suit their individual goals. We offer up to five coaching sessions per week, and two crews to choose from (recreational and competitive). No prior rowing experience is necessary because our juniors program includes our Introduction to Rowing Course, which teaches students the basic skills necessary to row and navigate a rowing shell. Our program satisfies all physical education credit requirements of AISD, EANES and RRISD. And it is by far the most-affordable program in Austin - only $250 per semester (sixteen weeks of rowing/coaching at less than $16/week).

Benefits of Rowing: Rowing is not only great exercise, working and developing all major muscle groups (back, legs, stomach, and arms), it is also the ultimate team sport. Our trained and experienced coaches use the rowing stroke to teach students self-discipline and the value of teamwork. Our positive training techniques and goal-oriented approach are designed to motivate and encourage kids while developing self-confidence through physical exercise. And the gym space is the best in Texas - Town Lake is widely considered the finest rowing venue in the United States.
Two Crews in One Program: The Texas Rowing juniors program provides students with two crew options: the Competitive Crew and the Recreational Crew. The Competitive Crew is comprised of a novice team and a varsity team.
• Recreational Crew: The Recreational Crew provides an option for students who are interested in rowing, but are not interested in competing. We encourage all 7th-grade through 12th-grade students to join. This program includes our Introduction to Rowing course, so it is perfect for new rowers and experienced rowers alike. The goal for crew members is to improve technique and endurance, while experiencing the excitement of team-boat rowing. We will set group goals for the crew, and individual goals for every rower. Our coaches will introduce various drills to develop technical skills and to improve boat speed. Recreational Crew members are invited to participate in local regattas and intersquad races. Recreational crew members who develop an interest in competing are welcome to join the Competitive Crew at any time.
• Competitive Crew: Our competitive program is designed to challenge those high-school students who want to train to race competitively in regattas. The crew is divided into a novice team and a varsity team. New rowers participate on the novice team for their first year. Once they have two semesters of experience, rowers progress to the varsity team. Our goal is to develop teamboats capable of not only participating in regattas, but in winning metals! To do so, we plan to hone the talents of each individual by improving fitness and developing technical proficiency. To accomplish these goals, athletes will practice and race in sculling singles, doubles, and quads.
Spring Semester Practice Schedule: To encourage greater participation, Texas Rowing Center has developed a flexible practice schedule that allows busy students to choose the days they row based on their availability. Student may row up to Five Times per Week at the following times:
• Monday - 4:45 to 6:30 p.m.
• Tuesday - 4:45 to 6:30 p.m.
• Wednesday - 4:45 to 6:30 p.m.
• Thursday - 4:45 to 6:30 p.m.
• Saturday - 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon
We may create additional slots if student interest warrants.
Orientation Day: Our orientation will be held on Monday, January 19th at 4:45 p.m. Please bring your registration forms and your payment (cash, check or credit card) for the fall season, or register over the phone by calling 467-7799.
